What I believe

The truths I stand on.

Jesus Christ, our Saviour

Jesus came, lived, died on the cross and rose again to bring us back to God. He came to restore what sin broke: our relationship with the Father.

By human birth He came from the line of David. By rising from the dead He was shown to be the Son of God with power (Romans 1:3–4). He was tempted in every way, just as we are, yet He never sinned (Hebrews 4:15). Now He sits at the right hand of God and prays for us (Hebrews 12:2; Romans 8:34).

The Bible

The Bible is God’s Word. Its writers did not make it up. They spoke from God as the Holy Spirit carried them along (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21). It is not a book of old stories. It is God’s living Word for us today, full of grace and truth.

Sin and salvation

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). We are saved by faith in what Jesus finished on the cross, and set free from sin and its penalty.

Each of us must receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour. When we do, His Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children (Romans 8:16).

New life in Christ

God’s Word renews our minds and God’s Spirit renews our strength. New life needs both, and it begins with a heart that repents and believes.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit was there at creation with the Father and the Son. God gives us His Spirit to shape us into the likeness of His Son, and Jesus Himself lived and moved in the Spirit’s power.

Jesus promised, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever” (John 14:16). He is the Spirit of truth, who lives with us and will be in us.

The Spirit shows us our need for salvation, leads us to receive Jesus as Saviour, and then changes us. This is what it means to be born again.

Divine healing

Divine healing is God’s power bringing health to the body. We receive it by faith in what Jesus finished. By His wounds we are healed (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24). Healing is part of what He paid for at Calvary.

Baptism in water and in the Spirit

We believe in baptism in water and baptism in the Holy Spirit, with speaking in tongues as the Spirit enables (Acts 2:4). By one Spirit we are all baptised into one body, the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). When His power comes upon us, rivers of living water flow, bringing life, joy, love, peace and the power to bless others (John 7:37–38).

The Lord’s Supper

Jesus first shared the Lord’s Supper with His disciples (Matthew 26:26–28). We share it today as His followers, remembering His death until He comes (1 Corinthians 11:26).

The return of Christ

Jesus will come back, just as He went, visibly and in glory (Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17).
